Freshman College Preparation Activities

  • Develop good study habits - your GPA/Rank begins with your first semester grades this year! They become part of your permanent record/transcript which determines college admissions and scholarships.

  • Read, Read, Read ~ your vocabulary development will be invaluable when you take standardized/college admissions (ACT/SAT) tests.

  • Participate in a variety of extracurricular activities to help define your interests.  Colleges want well-rounded students. Begin your Activity Resume.

  • Make time for community service ~ many scholarships are based on this.

  • It is not too early to contact colleges for information or even visit.

  • Get online and do some research on college and career information ~ see Guidance Links page for some great sites.

  • Begin a college/career folder to keep any information you receive.

  • Attend a College Fair to initiate contacts and set goals.

You will participate in many Guidance Activities to help you get organized, discover your learning style and your interests, set goals and utilize resources.
